St. Louis Bread
Pudding
5 cups Day-Old Bread, diced 1/2 cup Espresso, or Strong Coffee 3 cups Half & Half 5 Eggs 1/2 cup Sugar 1-1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract 1/4 tsp Nutmeg 2 tbsp Butter |
Heat oven to 325 degrees & butter 1-quart baking dish. Place 5 cups day-old Bread, diced up, in a shallow bowl. Pour 1/2 cup espresso into 3 cups half & half. Pour mix over bread and allow to soak 1 hr. Beat 5 eggs. Add 1/2 cup sugar and mix well. Add 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg and 1-1/2 tsp vanilla extract. Mix well. Pour over bread. Dot with 2 tbsp butter and bake 45-55 min. Serve with caramel sauce or Cool Whip. Optional: Add 2/3 cups raisins and 1/3 cups chopped pecans. |
